Coronation and fall cooking...

So we all got up way early in the morning for coronation. We had some issues to getting Benton moving but we got going and picked up Ari and were on the interstate by 7am. The drive was nice we chit chatted and got to site. We found a place to set stuff and got dressed. I haven't worn a veil in quite a long time so it took me a minute to get it settled but it looked good and I used the temple pendants that I bought from Dominique who had gotten them from Feed the Ravens. I thought I looked really nice . Ari and I sat in court and it wasn't as reverent as other courts but that is not the vibe of this crown. Ari and I sat and did string things though I untangled yarn and she knit and then ripped back the back panel of her sweater and started over. Seems the world still needs a bit of crafting chaos with us cause I ended up tearing out what I made this last week on the crochet stuffy I was making.

Anyhoo, the court started on time and ended with the crown transfer and then they moved right into oaths and setting the counties. Sutton and Celeste had a commitment at 1pm so things moved quickly but nicely. I had to run back to the ready room to get the county scrolls that the incoming crown's heralds hadn't grabbed. I'm also getting a roses mantle from Genevieve in my colors and I think I'm going to go for the 14th century style so its easier to add to things since I have a lot of viking style hoods that are pretty. Plus it will be easier to put it on an off for coronation courts etc than a full hood. I just need to dig out linen to hand to her.

But we then had a break for lunch and we had brought things and made sammiches and handed an extra one off to Will. Benton had spent the courts doing art with some of the kids and after lunch court was just another hour? So we were helping pack things up at 3pm-ish. We all got changed (except Benton cause he refuses to pack clothes when we tell him) adn then headed to out to the Mercantile Antiques Mall. We had a nice casual time and got to see baby goats! Then we headed to Black Bear Diner for dinner. We did basic food since we were all tired and hungry and the teenager wanted pancakes. Still hard for me to find things I can eat at Black Bear so I'm not sure it will continue to be on our rotation coming up.

Sunday Mel and Thorin went to the champions tourneys and Benton and I slept in and then went out to Joes for late breakfast. It was nice and then it was home to projects or well, I took a nap. I was so tired. I woke up with a headache which is not a good sign. But I got up and started prepping dinner. We had venison from the freezer I had set to defrost and I sliced up two roasts into medallions and then quick seared them after a coating of flour before putting them into a greased baking dish. I then used the same pan I had seared things in to sauté up a bunch of mushrooms and spices to make a hearty gravy. I used a bottle of porter since I was out of bullion but oh it was good. I placed a small piece of raw bacon on top of each medallion or around it if they were small and then slathered the gravy on and baked it. The original recipe asked for pancetta and a small amount of mozzarella on top. I agree with the pancetta and can't do the mozz. I was clearing things out of the freezer thus teh bacon. But thinner fat on the top is preferred so you don't over cook it which I did just slightly to get the bacon done. We had it with vegan cheezy mash potatoes and it was really good except a few of the medallions I had not cut cross grain. One of the roasts was an odd cut so that makes sense.

But it was good. I also made stuff butternut squash on Wednesday. I had picked from the ground perfect little squashes at Apple Annies and then sliced them in half, coated with bacon fat and spices (garlic powder, onion powder, cinnamon, pepper, Auntie arwens game seasoning (the list bit I had), and then topped with a 50/50 mix of ground pork sausage and spicy pork sausage and then spritzed with avacado oil and dusted with panko. I baked them for an hour and they were so good. Benton has ate most of the leftovers of that.

Anyway that hold tired thing...kept going. Mel got home and loved the dinner and I went to bed early and woke up not feeling right on monday. I made it to 1145am and then went back to bed. I was out for hours. I barely woke up for dinner and then back to bed. I took benton to the bus on Tuesday and then slept the rest of the day. I was better in the evening and Wednesday I shakily started work and got most a day in from home and I've worked the rest of the week like that.

I've been crocheting a bit. Mel packed up and left for GWW yesterday. And my plans are knitting, crocheting, sleeping, and drinks out with the girls this weekend. There is a lego convention I will see if Benton wants to go to a session on Sunday afternoon. I also want a pedicure which I may go do tonight after I pick Benton up from work. My massage got cancelled so I have some time tonight.

But I'm feeling better. The tired and brain fog with the congestion and cough were fun (not). But today I'm wide eyed and puffy tailed. I'm not taking that as carte blanche to be crazy but its a good sign.

So we got going on Saturday, made it through security and down to the park and through the gates when they opened. A lot of folks were wearing halloween stuff and it was a amazing. A lot of ooohing and awwing in line. We got our selves to the hotel line and into tomorrow land at our time. We hit Space Mountain and the Astro Rockets before rope drop. Then we hit our list (more on that later)and this was kind of our day both days.

We did head into DCA that night for getting on Guardians Mission Breakout after Dark. The line was long and we were told at 7pm the line was 120 minutes. While inline they shut down the normal line for the night so fast passes were all they were taking. Guys in line with us had started a timer when we got in line. We made it through in 62 minutes and the ride was hella fun. Tivan's collection has broken out and Rocket wants your help to distract the monsters while he rescues baby groot. The lights through the queue are weird and red and the video screens keep glitching showing fuzzy security footage of the guards and the assistants running and fighting things in smoke. We got in our gantry and we were in the front row. I was on the edge of the gantry and I did not look down the shaft. The usual ride has nice fun drops and good story bits in between but this one was fast and seriously we had so much airtime out of our seats that ari's water bottle escaped and hit her front teeth before she caught it. It was wild, scary as heck and so much fun.

Also, they had a headless horseman you could interact with with your magic band... which was amazing.

We headed back into Disneyland and did a few things on my bucket list which was watching the fireworks show and then we got to see Phantasmic. I had watched/red a bunch of blogs/videos to help us get things like where to see things. So we headed through the park, avoiding a parade and made it to Its a small world just as the parade was moving past so we were able to get seats right at the corner on a curb with a nice fence for a back and sat watching the most amazing show. Then we headed over to Rivers of America/French Quarter to go see Phantasmic. We setup at the corner as you head into Pirates and a castmember went up to the guy standing next to me and asked if it was just the 3 of us (him, me and ari), guy looked to me and said nope is the 4 of us (including his buddy). The castmember was "I got you." and pulled us to a reserved section dead center for the show. It was standing, not leaning against the wall of pirates but omg was it cool. Like seriously, how do you hide the Columbia in the fog? But it was fun. And to close out the night we went on Pirates.

So Ari and I had a bucket list and then we just started adding all the things we did to document things. It was a fun way to track things and make sure we did the things we wanted.

Due to both our food allergies I think for future eating dinner in DCA is easier. More adult style food options that aren't just fair food. We also got kinda nerfed on things due to Oogie Boogie Bash being on Sunday night so we couldn't be in DCA after 6pm. We managed to leave it at 245pm while soaking wet from the river rapids. We did have a nice time in DCA. We got there and first rode Ariel, and then Goofy's Sky School and we had fast passed for Radiator Springs Racers but the timing was a bit later in the AM so we meandered around and happened upon Tow Mater dressed up as Count Mater and got the photo. We rode both of the other cars rides and explored the halloween version of Cars. The Cosy Cone motel was so fun for the season and then we got brunch at the Lamplighter on Pixar Pier. If I could have drunk Mimosas the Mimosa flight would have been perfect but I had a Beermosa with OJ/Orange beer from San Diego. So good. The staff was awesome without allergies and we had good noms. Then we did some shopping, waiting way to long for Monsters Inc but we've done it and now its off the list. We went back to the hotel to drop off things and change into clothes we didn't care got wet and hit the river run. We got on with 4 teenage boys and their aunt/uncle and us. Adults on one side, kids on the other and the weight distro made it so all the boys, though we got wet too but not like them. It was fun. We then headed back into Disneyland cause the lines for Oogie Boogie were insane and we had fast past into Indiana Jones and we took the monorail and when we saw the lines it was nuts. We really got the hang of the fast pass on Sunday. For what we wanted to do on Saturday it wasn't much of a thing but I think we did well on Sunday. You just have to get things early and then push times as your stuff changes. We just had a nice time in the park and hitting all the things we had missed. We hit Smugglers Run with a family who can't fly but Ari and I kept that ship going well.

It was nice and easy on Sunday and we had dinner at Belle Terrace with a wonderful server. We then tried to hit Winnie the Pooh but it went down just as we got there and so after a bit of a meander we hit Pirates and then we got stuck...on pirates....for like 15 mins. We were sitting for so long that I figured out we were missing a parrot in the area we were in cause they were singing counter point but were no where. So we were under the bridge almost looking at this pirate for a while. We got done and then were just DONE. We had to circumvent a parade on our way out and hit the last gift shop and a cast member asked us if "we like characters" and we said yes and walked into a side area and there was Mickey and Goofy!!!!!!!!!!. We got pictures and that was so awesome. So we hobbled back out of the park and did a bit of final shopping in Downtown Disney (legos and print shop) before collapsing into our room.

All in all it was a good trip. We needed it. Next time 3 days much easier but man we really really packed a lot in. We were both were sad to have work on the Tuesday but it was okay. And that was our trip. Link to full album here

Not quite as exhausted...

Things have pants before and after the Disney trip. Though Ari and I were right...we need 3 days in the parks. Its much easier on ourselves and our feet. We had a really good time though and a few points of magic. 1) we lucked out multiple times for cast members just being amazing 2) we had a bucket list of things and we got almost all of them done, 3) I absolutely HATE the Nightmare before Christmas overlay on the Haunted Mansion. Its a neon Xmas fever dream and they sped the ride up and ugh NO! (rolled up paper to the nose of whoever thinks this is appropriate during HALLOWEEN!)

So our drive out was good, easy. Set the cruise to 90mph and go. seriously, they do not care how much you speed on I-8 as long as you are safe (Arizona side), the Cali side had ICE checkpoints...google maps noted "unplowed roads ahead" and that was enlightening in a sad way. We off course hit traffic and I now know how to turn HOV lane required onto the map app so we got a secret squirrel way into the hotel. I paid the money for Valet cause I was tired and hungry and excited. Ari had the awe face on for walking into the Grand Californian and our room was nice and overlooked the pool. we headed into downtown disney through security and had late lunch at Ballast Point here is where we noticed changes. a Few of the higher end disney stores were gone (the clothing one) and even Ballast Point didn't have their cooler of beers to take home. Overall the parks had consolidated merchandise so its mostly the same everywhere with only a few specific things per location. From supply chain and organization I get it. But it kinda takes the sales out of shopping all of the stores to find the specific thing. Now there were a few things we found in the parks but all in all it was available in Downtown Disney. We had a nice time shopping and then snuggled up into bed with our plan of attack for the AM. More on that tomorrow.

Good morning, afternoon, and evening!

We're doing some database and other light server maintenance this weekend (upgrading the version of MySQL we use in particular, but also probably doing some CDN work.)

I expect all of this to be pretty invisible except for some small "couple of minute" blips as we switch between machines, but there's a chance you will notice something untoward. I'll keep an eye on comments as per usual.

Ta for now!
