So here I am today, at Aurora's to work on my pavilion, and I needed to run to the store to get more pins.
And while there-- of course, I cannot walk through JoAnn's without looking at the FABRIC-- I find this eyelet fabric that incorporates the same exact pattern I'm using for my embroidery project.
You know, the pattern I copied from a picture of a silver bowl found in the Sutton Hoo ship burial?
Same. Exact. Pattern.
How cool is that? That such a neat little pattern has been repeated and repeated and redone and redone and maintained in textile arts long enough that it is being used in completely modern fabric produced in MY lifetime, and then here I am embroidering it on soemthing so that I can pretend to be from a time period much earlier in the lifespan of said artit just tickles me..

Those of you who know me at ALL will see the humor here:
Earlier today, my boss told me I have the patience of a saint.
Go ahead, sit back and laugh-- lord knows I did.

Now that I've spent time reviewing the class schedule for EW, I'm getting twitchy and impatient for War.
Impatience bad! I need an extra two weeks added between now and War, to get everything done that is on my list.

The Grumpification of Bertana (i.e. "Help!")
So, I'm working on this tunic (and suddenly, I am annoyed at myself for starting a sentence with "so". There is no winning).
I've stuck on the first set of appliques (black applique on white fabric), and I want to couch around the edges, and I thought it would look both Spiffy and Keen to do so with silver metallic thread.
Now, I have seen the thread/cord/whatever you want to call it before. To describe, it is basically several strands of thread that are wrapped in metallic. It ends up being a little thicker than embroidery floss. I know this stuff is available, but I cannot find it! Granted, I have only looked at three different JoAnn's (one of which is a "superstore") and at two different Michael's, but ... how hard is it to find this stuff?
I've used the gold version before, and we found that at SAS. I don't remember if they had silver, and I haven't been able to get to SAS during their hours.
Any suggestions? I was so sad that I couldn't find it, because that tunic is the main project I brought with me to work on this weekend, and the couching was going to give me a break from the non-stop split-stitch of the embroidered trim (don't ask for logic on how that is a 'break', it just is).

Dork Side, redux
You know you might be loopy from lack of sleep when you have a Steve Miller Band song stuck in your head ...
... and you re-write it from "Big Ol' Jet Airliner" to "Big Old Jed had a Lighthouse".
And also: the word of the day is mondegreen.

Got to work about 15 minutes ago; just rummaged through my purse to grab my phone so I could find a phone number and ...
I left my phone sitting on the coffee table at the house.
So if you need to get in touch with me this weekend, I'll be in Tucson.

So if you need to get in touch with me this weekend, I'll be in Tucson.
And now for something slightly different...
I'm slowly (or not-so-slowly; I think the pace of progress is increasing) going loopy today. These are the things currently running through the BrainSoup o'Bertana:
I wish I could work on the OP at work.
- Rubber ducky, you're the one ... GODDAMNIT, CORYNNE!
- I think I hate wearing glasses.
- If our coffee-bar is going to be under construction for an entire month, I damn well hope they're installing a cute barista or something. Sheesh.
- [in rhythm to the hammering from said coffee bar]Nailnail, nail, nailnail ... THUMB!
- Tiiiiiiired. So tired.
- Why did I agree to shoot target archery tonight, when The Bruise That Ate Kentucky is finally fading from my arm?
- Why did I agree to go to Chandler for target archery, when Chandler is ... IN CHANDLER? Dog, so far from home.
- Did we mention the tired yet?
- Waitaminute, what is this "we"? WE ARE MANY, OUR NAME IS
LEGIONBERTANA. - Heee. Resistance is futile, you WILL be Anglo-Saxon
- Resistance is futile, you will be asi- asi- asi--- YOU WILL JOIN US. [Porky the Borg.]
- Wow, it really doesn't take much to entertain me.
- If I kill that guy, will the excuse, "But, your Honor, he asked me if I was HAVING A CASE OF THE MONDAYS" hold up in court? It should, man.
I wish I could work on the OP at work.

So I've seen that code you can use that says "___________ is love", and you enter your own username, and it spits back your own user icons in nifty colors and says that YOU, in fact, are love.

Kickass Link o' the Day
Forwarded by Maysun (one of Jadi's other students) from the SCA Persian list, here's a pretty damn cool link:
http://rylibweb.man.ac.uk/insight/mancoll.htm
Click on The Rylands Collection, then under "How to View" click on "View the Rylands Collection using Insight Browser". It gives you a "Select a Collection" drop-down box once the browser opens, so just go down to "Rylands Collection".
There are 1,912 images.
Don't do this if you're on a slow connection or don't have much time. Trust me.

Ring Out, Wild Bells
Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky,
The flying cloud, the frosty light;
The year is dying in the night;
Ring out, wild bells, and let him die.
Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.
Ring out the grief that saps the mind,
For those that here we see no more,
Ring out the feud of rich and poor,
Ring in redress to all mankind.
Ring out a slowly dying cause,
And ancient forms of party strife;
Ring in the nobler modes of life,
With sweeter manners, purer laws.
Ring out the want, the care the sin,
The faithless coldness of the times;
Ring out, ring out my mournful rhymes,
But ring the fuller minstrel in.
Ring out false pride in place and blood,
The civic slander and the spite;
Ring in the love of truth and right,
Ring in the common love of good.
Ring out old shapes of foul disease,
Ring out the narrowing lust of gold;
Ring out the thousand wars of old,
Ring in the thousand years of peace.
Ring in the valiant man and free,
The larger heart, the kindlier hand;
Ring out the darkenss of the land,
Ring in the Christ that is to be.
-Alfred, Lord Tennyson
[Belief in Christ (or complete lack thereof, in my case) aside, this will always be one of my favorite poems for the closing of one year and the opening of the new.]

Today is ...
- The Feast Day of the Ten Martyrs of Crete
- The birthday of Japan's Emperor
- The Night of [or Feast of] The Radishes, in Mexico
America has such boring holidays.
(Did anyone else read Bunnicula as a kid? That's what THE NIGHT OF THE RADISHES makes me think of. That, or the "ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES" movie. Heh.)
