The Grumpification of Bertana (i.e. "Help!")

So, I'm working on this tunic (and suddenly, I am annoyed at myself for starting a sentence with "so". There is no winning).

I've stuck on the first set of appliques (black applique on white fabric), and I want to couch around the edges, and I thought it would look both Spiffy and Keen to do so with silver metallic thread.

Now, I have seen the thread/cord/whatever you want to call it before. To describe, it is basically several strands of thread that are wrapped in metallic. It ends up being a little thicker than embroidery floss. I know this stuff is available, but I cannot find it! Granted, I have only looked at three different JoAnn's (one of which is a "superstore") and at two different Michael's, but ... how hard is it to find this stuff?

I've used the gold version before, and we found that at SAS. I don't remember if they had silver, and I haven't been able to get to SAS during their hours.

Any suggestions? I was so sad that I couldn't find it, because that tunic is the main project I brought with me to work on this weekend, and the couching was going to give me a break from the non-stop split-stitch of the embroidered trim (don't ask for logic on how that is a 'break', it just is).

Sounds like a plan, man.

Are you thinking of "Japan gold"? It's a red or orange thread with a thin strip of mylar spiraling around it. (I believe there's silver available as well). You might have better luck with a needlework specialty shop - here in Tucson you'd be best off with The West (Craycroft & River, NW corner). I've gotten Japan Gold there before (as well as REAL gold bullion & thread).

i'll check in my box & see if I have any.
