... are mostly just "Wow."

The entries, the close race for Champion, the new Champion (yay, Katalena!), the banners from the outgoing Champion (so beautifully done), [livejournal.com profile] corinnemacleod's FLOWER OF THE DESERT (woo! yay! so very, very cool and well-deserved) and then Ivan being offered THE LAUREL. Holy sheet!

And Sancha's tablet weaving won the novice category! WOO!

I am totally, completely humbled by the all the people who jumped in and helped with various things: the people who surprised me by showing up early and helping with setup (I really didn't think there'd be anyone but our household 'brute squad' there), the guys who dropped everything and helped me save my amber beads when one of the strings from my brooches snapped, the people who brought SO. MUCH. FOOD, Jeanne who helped organize so much of it, Sancha and Nikolaus who hardly ever left the kitchen so they could make sure the platters stayed full and people got to eat. My poor brother, Elias, who showed up at a little before 8:00 a.m. to help, even though he'd stayed at Gavin's vigil until something like 3:00 a.m. to help THEM clean up; then came back at the end of the event to help break down. Osric came and helped with setup, realized he'd left garb and heraldry stuff at home, drove all the way home to get it, came back for the event and stayed to help clean at the end.

I'm going to have to write a post to the list; I was jotting down people's names throughout the day so that I can give a proper thank-you.

EVERYONE pitched in and helped break down and clean at the end of the event. Totally blew me away. I was so nervous/tense about us getting out of the site on time, and we were out of there five minutes before 8:00pm.

You know, Jack always tells me not to let negative stuff overshadow all the good, but I cannot stop thinking about the fact that someone drew a pentagram on the back of the women's bathroom door. Thank goodness it was just pencil, Hrefna saw it almost right away and was able to get it off the door. But it just absolutely stuns me. I hope that whoever did that thinks about it, examines their actions and motives, and feels great, great shame. I know I feel ashamed to simply be associated with someone who would do that. Not just because it's a pentagram and we were in a church-- but simply the fact that someone decided to go get a pencil and vandalize a lovely site, particularly after we'd made announcements about needing to take particular care with the site.

Overall: considering the nervous, first-time co-autocrat ... I kind of think the event went well. By the middle of the day, I'd already thought of ways to do things better, so I guess I'll just get to apply those lessons to the next time around!
