Dec. 6th, 2004

This was a pretty productive weekend, except for the time I spent avoiding chores at home. (My place? Such a mess, y'all. Oy.)

Friday night, I went to the Barony of Atenveldt's Yule, held at the Encanto Park clubhouse. I could only stay long enough to uphold heralding duties, unfortunately; it looked like a lovely event. When Their Excellencies Atenveldt recessed their court, their Majesties opened Their court and gave out the following awards:

  • Light of Atenveldt: Lady Rowan Bridgit Blackmore

  • Fleur de Soleil: Lord Raven Mayne

  • Award of Arms: Eva de Wolfen

Then, they called forward the Masters and Mistresses of the Pelican. Surveying the order, they turned to Baroness Deborah of Sundragon and asked her to bring forward one who was missing from the Order. Her Excellency turned to make her way through the seated populace, when she noticed that the tissue in her hand was ... leopard-print. "I have the wrong tissue!" she exclaimed, and turned to rush back to her seat, where her Baronial Seneschal, acting as her lady-in-waiting for the evening's court, was waiting with a plain tissue ready for her. She took the tissue and, in the same motion, grasped her Seneschal's hand and began to guide her around the thrones and into the waiting pod of Pelicans. Lady Katheline van Weye was asked to consider Their Majesty's question and give them an answer at Kingdom 12th Night.

She still had that deer-in-the-headlights look later, when I gave her a hug on my way out the door.

After court, I ran out to head over to my boss's house, where we had a farewell dinner for one of the gentlemen in our office; he has been "on loan" from our Dallas office for the past year, and will be returning to Dallas this week.

Half of Saturday was spent at school, the other half at the mall—or, as a friend of mine insists upon spelling it, the maul, which seems fitting. God, what an experience. I hate shopping, particularly when I'm shopping for fancy clothing. We have our company holiday party coming up (Saturday!) and I really don't have anything appropriate; I have work clothing, I have jeans and t-shirts, and I have two evening gowns. This really isn't an evening-gown kind of event, however, so I needed something more along the lines of "cocktail dress," which completely flummoxes me. I had no luck whatsoever on Saturday, and on Sunday began calling around to see if someone with a sense of style was available to help me shop. I talked E into giving me two hours of her day, which turned into something more like four or five, but I have an outfit and feel much better about the whole thing (I've backed down from the tempting thought of just cancelling my flight.)

After getting home on Sunday evening, I was still too antsy to be around the apartment, so I grabbed another friend and headed to yet another friend's house for sewing. Newbies got to work on Viking tunics and we all got to sit around and BS. Once again, I was up way too late last night, but I'm finding that it bothers me less and less.
